GCRT considers that effective rehabilitation can only be achieved by constant fighting against torture. The center’s main goal is to contribute to the prevention of torture as well as raise awareness about torture related problems.
GCRT holds special events to spread the information about torture and ill-treatment. The organization delivers information about the characteristics of what makes torture a case of criminal law. The center conducts educational works according to national and international torture prevention instructions.
Every year on June 26 GCRT celebrates UN International day in support of victims of torture. The center holds several events to rais awareness about torture issues, reach wider audience and ensure society’s involvement in fighting against torture. GCRT spreads brochures and publications about prevention of torture and inhuman treatment.
In 2008 according to president’s #369 decree a special interagency coordination council was created to prevent torture and inhuman treatment. The council consists of representatives of governmental, non-governmental and international organizations, as well as independent experts. GCRT is one of two NGO-s and its members regularly attend council meetings and participate in elaborating of masterplan. GCRT regularly presents anonymous cases of inhuman treatment.
